Elder Scrolls Online Morrowind Expansion Shows New PvP Mode
Game expansions can oftentimes be just as exciting, if not more so, as the base titles themselves. The Morrowind expansion for the popular Blizzard-published MMORPG The Elder Scrolls Online seems no exception, and it’s only gaining more traction as it inches toward release. Today, a bundle of never-before-seen Morrowind screenshots were released, showing off the expansion’s new Battlegrounds PvP mode.
The player-versus-player mode is set to be included in The Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind at its launch in June, and allows players to fight 12 at a time, in three groups of four contenders each, throughout the expansion’s many arena-like landscapes. One in particular is the Ashland regions of the Vvardenfell island, the lush and diverse environment in which Morrowind is set.
Four screenshots feature a behind-the-scenes look at the upcoming Battlegrounds PvP, showing off the variety of ways Elder Scrolls Online fans can duke it out to the final finish. From creeping through rocky terrain on the way to combat to going head-to-head in a circular gameplay stage to see who reigns supreme, it appears that the PvP mode coming to Morrowind will cover a fair bit of base.
Take a look at the images below:
The release of these stills follows closely after the debut Morrowind gameplay trailer, and only a month following the expansion’s actual announcement reveal. Given the success of the online role-playing game it expands upon, with The Elder Scrolls Online recently surpassing 8.5 million players, incorporating an immersive in-game mode to Morrowind seems to be a smart move on the developers’ behalf.
Similarly, player-versus-player modes have been highly sought after, but sometimes difficult to secure. In the recent past, The Pokemon Company has toyed with the idea of bringing a PvP mode to its successful mobile game Pokemon GO, but hasn’t made any definitive plans. Adding the mode to Morrowind, which includes both the largest zone expansion and a brand-new character class, may very well set a precedent for PvP inclusion, and may pull in a ton of new Elder Scrolls Online players.
The Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind releases on for Mac, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
